The Skye Cuillin viewed from the SE ridge of Sgurr nan Gillean

Early afternoon on 26th March 2005.

This image is a composite of eight 35mm slides taken shortly after climbing Sgurr nan Gillean by the 'Tourist Route'. The viewpoint is on the SE ridge slightly north of where the route reaches the ridge. I would have taken the photos from the summit, but with 12 other people jostling for space on the small table top, careful photography wasn't a realistic proposition!

From the left, the view encompasses Marsco (with the Skye Bridge directly behind), Garbh-Bheinn, Ruadh Stac in front of Clach Glas, Blaven, the SE ridge leading down to Sgurr Bheag in the foreground with Sgurr na Stri in the background, then the conical peak Sgurr na h-Uamh with Loch Scavaig in the background. The ridge of Druim nan Ramh rises in the middle distance to the right of Sgurr na h-Uamha and runs in front of the western flank of the main Cuillin ridge. From the left, the main tops visible in the main Cuillin ridge are Gars-Bheinn, Sgurr Dubh Mor, (Sgurr Dubh Beag between main ridge and Druim nan Ramh in front of Sgurr nan Eag), Sgurr Dubh na da Bheinn, Sgurr Thearlaich, Sgurr Alastair, An Stac, The Inaccessible Pinnacle, Sgurr Dearg, Sgurr na Banachdich, Sgurr a' Ghreadaidh with the complex summit of Bidean Druim nan Ramh below in the foreground, Sgurr a' Mhadaidh, then on the approaching ridge An Caisteal and lastly Sgurr na Bhairnich above the scree and patches of snow.
