Loch Hourn Sunrise

© Gavin Shaw 2003

Sunrise 18 October 2003. Lying in my sleeping bag with the tent door unzipped, I watched this scene develop. It started in near darkness with stars popping into view over the horizon, then passed through a full gamut of warm colours as the sun approached the horizon. I emerged from my tent with camera and tripod to capture this view.

This slight telephoto shot was taken from Blaven's north top. It extends from The Saddle in Glen Shiel on the left, Beinn Sgritheall (with the high prow in the middle distance, to the left of the sunrise), Loch Hourn across the Sound of Sleat, Ladhar Bheinn (the highest middle distance top a little right of centre frame) through to the unmistakeable whale back of Ben Nevis near the right edge of the frame.
